Closed Rhinoplasty VS Open Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty is mostly preferred by the patient as closed rhinoplasty has many advantages over open rhinoplasty.  Closed rhinoplasty needs shorter time period for the successful completion of the surgery.  The cutting of nose and its related structures are less in closed rhinoplasty so that it is easy for the patient to recover soon.  The scarring is very less in the case of close rhinoplasty compared to open rhinoplasty.

Primary and secondary rhinoplasties are there.  In the primary rhinoplasty, correction of functions and restoring the aesthetic features are carried out.  Secondary rhinoplasty is essential when primary rhinoplasty is not successful.  It is so complicated as it is a rectification process or correction procedure of the primary rhinoplasty.

Facial Asymmetry Correction In Kerala

Facial asymmetries consist of an imbalance between the homologous skeletal structures of the face. Most people present some degree of facial asymmetry, since a state of perfect symmetry is rare. This common asymmetry only becomes relevant when it is perceivable by the patient. In this situation, either orthodontic surgical correction or orthodontic treatment is normally chosen.

http://jpmaxface.com/facial-assymetry-treatment/

Causes For Facial Asymmetry

There are a number of reasons:

1. Sun damage
People who are exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays, especially truck drivers have an asymmetry. What side of the car you are driving on determines what side of your face will be the worst affected.

2. Sleeping on your Side
Sleeping on your side has to cope with excessive weight (from the rest of your head) resulting in more strain and hence aging.

3. Injury
Any injury can change the way the muscles on one side of the face act, which can result in facial unevenness or asymmetry.

4. Uneven or Asymmetrical Muscles
We use one side of our face and body, hence using the same muscles leaving the other side idle. There come an uneven or asymmetry muscles clearly affecting the facial symmetry.

Factors to consider

  • Age of the patient
  • Severity of the existing Dentofacial deformity
  • The measured response to the orthopedics once a decision has been made to use them.

Treatment For Facial Asymmetry

There are different techniques as per the condition of the patient. There are several evaluation stages of the deformity to determine the technique to be used. Regular visits are required for the evaluation stage, taking proper instructions from the doctor.

Treatment during active facial growth, two options are considered:
Orthodontic functional appliances may be used to attempt to stimulate growth on the affected side, thus producing an equal growth.

Early surgery to improve facial appearance and facial growth , thereby reducing the severity of the adult deformity, followed by orthodontic treatment.

JP Dentofacial and Implantology Clinic is one the best dental clinics in Thrissur.

The jaw is the most common fractured bone in the human body. The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) connects the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull (temporal bone) in front of the ear. Sometimes because of direct force or  trauma to the mandible (jawbone) this TMJ can break, crack or become unhinged from the skull, this unhinging of the jaw is called dislocation. A fractured or dislocated jaw can create problems with eating and breathing.  For this, immediate medical attention is necessary to minimize complications and accelerate healing.

Dentofacial deformity is a commonly found disorder in people, resulting from the imbalance in the size, position, shape or orientation of the bones constituting the upper and lower jaws. The issues of dentofacial deformities were detected and treatments sorted more than a century ago. The disorder can be successfully treated now, with the help of Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy (BSSRO).

Signs or Symptoms Associated with Dentofacial Deformity

Dentofacial deformity is a name used to classify several disorders and irregularities that are described below.
  • Upper jaw deficiency – upper jaw deficiency is an irregularity that can be detected from childhood. Here the upper jaw appears to be smaller than the lower jaw.
  • Long face and gummy smile – an irregularity caused due to extended gums which are bigger than teeth and gives the look of a longer shaped face.
  • Short face deformity – the face appears to be short due to a jaw irregularity.
  • Jaw asymmetry – an irregularity caused due to disproportionate jaws.

  • Open bite – an irregularity that occurs when the teeth in upper and lower jaw do not meet. This irregularity leaves a gap in teeth disabling the ability to close mouth completely.
  • Lower jaw recession – the lower jaws appear to be behind its original position in this irregularity.
  • Lower jaw protrusion – the lower jaw protrudes from its original position in this deformity.
  • Lower jaw fracture – this is a case of dentofacial deformity that are caused due to accidents. Here the bone or jaw structures are impaired due to fracture of the bones.

Diagnosis of Dentofacial Deformity

The type and extent of dental deformity can be diagnosed with the help of X-Rays, dental models, photographs or through clinical examination. In cases of sleep apnoea related to the deformity, sleep studies are also done.

The deformities can be visible from birth or starts to show after adolescence, when the bone structures are fully grown.

Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy

The procedure involves a surgical procedure when the bone structures are repaired and restructured to correct the deformity and thereby restoring the facial aesthetics.

One of the leading centres of implantology and maxillofacial surgery in the state, JP Dentofacial and Implantology clinic offers expert treatment under the expertise of Dr. Philip Mathew.

Is There Beauty In Face Symmetry?

Face is the most distinguishable part in our body. Any kind of irregularity in them are easily noticeable. Face asymmetry can be define as dissimilarity in both halves of the face. It can affect the overall beauty depending upon its intensity. The basic reason for facial asymmetry is the dissimilarity in the skeletal system or bone structure, there are other reasons as well.  With the advent of procedures like face asymmetry treatment or surgery these are not an issue anymore.

Types of face asymmetry

  • Dental asymmetry - here the set of teeth on lower and upper jaw are asymmetric to each other, causing issues in chewing and talking. This needs surgical intervention in adults. In children below 4 years, it can be corrected through basic exercises.
  • Skeletal asymmetry – mainly occurring as an asymmetry in jaws or cheeks. These can be corrected only by surgery , where the shape of face can be changed as well.
  • Muscular asymmetry – it is an asymmetry of the muscular structure which causes disruption in functions. In this case the patient will feel  difficulty in chewing and other functions.
  • Functional asymmetry – it is not found in common and requires advanced and complicated surgeries for correction.

Treatments for face asymmetry

Face asymmetry treatment or surgery involves the following techniques: -
  • Radiography - Utilises panoramic therapy options for treatment
  • Cephalogram - This x-ray procedure is used to assess the relation of the teeth in the jaws, jaws to the skull and the soft tissues to the teeth and jaws.
  • Anterior Projection - It is one of the latest and effective invention  in the treatment of facial asymmetry.

How to Fix Your Improper Bite ?

Bite Correction
is the main treatment to attain maximum health, yet it has been rarely considered. Nobody knows about the bite correction problems and if there is a tooth decay and gum disease they are only considered as dental issues. If this issue is left untreated many possibilities will arise to nutrient deficiency.
Bite correction can be Categorized as Overbite, underbite, open bite, Buck teeth correction.

Overbite: In this case of a problem, the upper front teeth extended too far over the lower front teeth causes the lower front teeth to bite into the mouth roof. The treatments are orthodontics braces, jaw surgery, facelift dentistry.
Underbite: In the case of underbite, the lower front teeth are present front of the upper front teeth. The non-surgical treatment for underbite correction is expanding the upper jaw, reverse-pull face mask, chin caps, and cosmetic options.
Openbite: Proper chewing is prohibited by open bite where the upper and lower front teeth will never overlap. Thumb sucking is considered to be the main cause for an open bite.
  • Openbite Anterior- it is caused by forward tongue thrust. It requires ongoing retainer wear to prevent the tongue from pushing the teeth open again.
  • Openbite Posterior- It is caused by strong sideways tongue thrust by preventing the back teeth from touch. Retainers are critical in maintaining this correction. Sometimes open bite correction involves with a surgical closure. There is a surgical procedure to reposition the upper jaw and to close the bite.
Buck Teeth: Projection of an upper tooth on the lower lip. It is a form of dental misalignment which is common among adults and children. It is corrected by using braces (bands, brackets, wires), using Invisalign, a series of plastic removable orthodontic trays called aligners which are used to correct mild or minor projection. Finally, surgery is suggested to push the maxilla behind or pushing mandible front.
