Jaw deformities are common conditions that affect the upper or lower jaws. It can be corrected by a jaw reshaping surgery. Here the jaws may grow too much or too little resulting in a condition called malocclusion (imperfect positioning of teeth when the jaws are closed). Types of Jaw Deformities

2. Microgenia: Unusually small or deformed chin

3. Macrogenia: Enlarged chin

5. Short Maxilla: Upper jaw is shorter than normal

6. Long Maxilla: Upper jaw is longer than normal

7. Mandible prognathism: Protruding lower jaws

Diagnosis
Jaw deformities can be diagnosed by a physical examination. For proper clarification of the deformities X-ray, CT scan or MRI scans are also advised.

Treatments
1.Upper Jaw (Maxillary) deformity treatment : Surgeries can be done to treat this maxillary deformity.This include addition or reduction of the bone structure, to get the normal shape and size of maxilla.
2.Lower Jaw (Mandibular) deformity treatment: Mandibular deformities are more common compared to maxillary deformities. This can be treated using dentofacial osteotomy or orthognathic surgery. Orthognathic surgeries are performed to correct conditions of jaw, face or other skeletal problems. Mandible prognathism can also treated using Mandibular osteotomy .It is done to get an aesthetic look.
